Mexico’s “Oscars” big for first-time directors

Hollywood Reporter – The 58th Ariel Awards is shaping up to be a big night for first-time directors. Of the five features in the running for best picture, three come from freshman filmmakers: Celso Garcia’s dramedy The Thin Yellow Line (La Delgada Linea Amarilla), Christian Keller’s biopic Gloria and Gabriel Ripstein’s gunrunning thriller 600 Miles (600 Millas). Also vying for best picture is David Pablo’s teen prostitution drama The Chosen Ones (Las Elegidas) and Rodrigo Pla’s A Monster With a Thousand Heads (Un Monstro de Mil Cabezas).
