Toyota moving Corolla to Mexico, highlighting high Canada costs

Globe and Mail – Toyota Motor Corp. plans to shift production of Corolla compact cars from, Ontario to a new factory in Mexico, ending an era that began when the company opened its first Canadian assembly plant in 1988. While employment levels at Toyota’s two Ontario plants are not expected to change, the shift underlines how Canada’s competitive position in vehicle manufacturing is eroding.
